Located just 5km from the Drury off-ramp, the historic Old Karaka Church is home to Interiors.etc, an extraordinary fashion, gift and homeware store.

Owner, Rachael Buxton, draws on almost 20 years as a professional interior designer to bring together a collection of affordable, quality products.

The Presbyterian/Methodist church has a rich history, Rachael explains.

“Where else can you go to shop in such superb surroundings?

Although it was built in the late 1800s, the church welcomed parishioners up until 2003. Even the nearby school (Karaka Primary) has strong ties to the church, holding assemblies here for many years,” she says.

“I love it when customers share their stories. Many locals had weddings here or attended bible classes, and one of my favourite clients was involved in a working bee when locals nailed down the floorboards of the hall at the rear of the church by hand.”

In 2007, Rachael purchased the property and spent the next nine months lovingly restoring the church. In addition to overseeing rebuilding of the entrance, she designed the stunning arched doors. The building also features two splendid brass and etched glass lanterns imported from South America which hang from the supporting kauri beams.

And, beneath these beams, visitors will find an eclectic array of products for sale.
“From French Laguiole cutlery, Surmanti body care, and women’s fashions (including Danish Noa Noa, Elm, LTB Jeans and Betty Basics), to kitchen and bathroom linen, lamps, artwork, cushions and scented candles, we have a wide range of delightful products on offer,” she says.

In addition, the store will soon offer new fashion ranges: Garcia from Italy, Deby Debo, French Boho, New London Jeans, White Chalk, Kaya, Pink Ruby and Romance from Australia.

Rachael says she thrives on the creative challenges of owning and operating a quality lifestyle store, regularly changing the mix of the products on offer.
“I’m always ready to adapt our range and introduce new products as a result of feedback.

At the end of the day, it’s the support and generosity of our customers that makes it a privilege to live and work in such a warm and inviting community.”
