Whether you just finished landscaping your section or if you have been enjoying it for years, unless you keep it maintained it will soon lose it’s appeal. If you don’t keep on top of maintenance it can soon become overwhelming and difficult.

Some basic steps can help avoid anxiety when looking after landscaping - and some basic materials will set you well on the way to success.  Make sure you have a good supply of mulch and compost or organic fertiliser as well a good water supply, replacement sprinkler heads, and some good quality pruning shears.

Begin with inspecting your plants.  Remember different plants respond better at different times of the year - so if something is looking a little droopy and doens’t seem to be responding, wait and see how it does later in the year.  Of course you could always take a leaf from Prince Charles’ book and try talking to them!

Replace any diseased or dead plants and be sure to treat the soil with new mulch or compost before adding new ones.  You may need to remove some old mulch to make room for the new stuff.

Fertilise your landscape with compost and organic fertilisers to promote lush lawn and plantings. Water once or twice a week in the early morning or night time hours. New plants may need to be watered by hand as they often need more water than established plants. Check your sprinkler system at least once a month to make sure all heads are working properly and facing the plant beds. Replace any broken sprinkler heads immediately.

Prune any unneeded foliage such as diseased leaves or conflicting limbs. Make sure you dispose of all cutting where your stock can’t eat it.

A well maintained house section will be the perfect finish for your lifestyle property, adding value and enjoyment.
