The summer holiday period usually brings about appeals and warnings from the police for people to take measures to keep their property safe and secure as they go away.

Unfortunately many people leave it too late, returning to their house or business only to find it burgled, and valuable assets and irreplaceable heirlooms gone.

Believe it or not, most burglaries occur during the day while you are at work, shopping, playing or watching sport, out the back hanging out the washing and even while you may be grieving at a funeral. It is a fact that burglars often check the death column in their local newspaper to find out when funerals are, knowing the house will be completely empty.

Statistics show the target for burglars has focused more and more on rural land owners, whether they are living on site or weekend hobbyists.

Rural properties are especially vulnerable due to their isolation. While an installed alarm system at your property will act as an excellent deterrent, having the site monitored allows for immediate response from your appointed delegate. This could be a response guard, a family member or a neighbour, so no matter how isolated you might be someone in the vicinity will be alerted, helping the police to zero in on the offenders.

So get to know your neighbours and prioritise your security arrangements so you can fully enjoy your holidays, and have peace of mind.
