According to a recently published Economic Impact Study undertaken by AUT’s Institute of Public Policy, and commissioned by Enterprise Northland with funding from Kaipara District Council, supported by a team of E4E (Education for Enterprise) students from Dargaville High School, the overall economic impact of the Northland Field Days is estimated between $27.947m and $31.997m. Participation is highly sought after by both exhibitors and visitors alike, who travel from all over New Zealand and even from overseas. The event continues to grow year on year and by April the committee are well into their planning for the following year with many exhibitors booking their sites well in advance. The committee has regularly had to increase the number of exhibitor sites due to high demand. Venue Northland Field Days Venue – Corner of Awakino Point East Road and State Highway 14, Dargaville. Theme The theme for 2009 is ‘25 Years and a Crystal Ball …’. The agricultural community has experienced the effects of climatic change over the last 25 years; who knows what may lie ahead in the next 25 years … Ministerial Visit The Hon David Carter, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Biosecurity will visit the site on Thursday, 26 February and give a short speech at 3 pm at the Headquarters. Best Site Awards Independent Judges are invited to nominate the ‘Best Site’ candidates. These are judged for the site with the best overall appearance and appeal. The winning exhibitors receive a trophy and a free site for the following Field Days and so competition is fierce. Another site award is for the site with the best depiction of the year’s theme.
