Bill Potter, Business Maverick. Hello. Let me get a little something off my chest first. I call it a chest anyway (sob!). Many folks have the manners of a possum’s bum! Occasionally, in my articles, I offer a maverick viewpoint Paper on a topic of interest. I send a complimentary copy of it to anyone who sends me an e-thingie, requesting it. I often send a complimentary copy of my ‘banned book’ (it wuz), ‘Mind Your Own Damn Business!’ to the most interesting e-message received. Over the years, just one millionth of one percent of the folks to whom I sent these items, bother to acknowledge receipt, with an old-fashioned ‘thank you’. So, to prove that country folk are much closer to the meaning of ‘life’, courtesy of Rural Living, you can e-message me at duitdammit@xtra.co.nz for my Paper, ‘What the Townies Screwed up, the Rurals can Fix!’. Apart from the money meltdown, courtesy of the ‘cowboys’ who have dominated the financial sector since Scrooge McDuck, and the invasive PC (People Control) culture, driven mostly by the loony left, our most pressing problems are directly related to the demise of our values, discipline and vision. This is the pivotal (well, I like this word…) moment to refer to a group known as the ‘baby boomers’. They still remember all three aforementioned characteristics. Even better, let’s ask the ‘boomers’ of the land, who wake up very early (dammit!) each morning, to the sights and sounds of the ‘Real’ world. Townies can’t ever do that. They are too distracted by traffic reports, parking roulette and the nine to five routine, to consider the world very much. And then, there’s shopping… So, here is another pesky General Election about. I say ‘pesky’ cos it can keep you from feeding the animals (particularly the child variety). Read the info about miniature animals. Mini cattle, donkeys, ponies, sheep, goats and pigs etc. Some have cute names like Baby Doll, Shetlands, Pygmy and Pot Belly. After all, we have been requested to tighten belts, downsize and other clichés. What? Not a new thing for Lifestyle Blockarians. The Lifestyle Block is already a ‘small’ farm. Your place is also known as a ‘toy farm’ because it is too small to be profitable (the cheek!). Rural folk have never been shy about ‘hard work’, so you’re ready… already. You’re being reminded that it will be toughish for a while (chortle, chortle… you have lived like that forever!). The only miniature animals that will cause Townies a problem include ants, cockroaches and the occasional rat… Be vigilant at Election time, team. Politics is mostly led by Townies (or transplanted Townies). Some of them are a Canis lupus (Google it then) in Ovis aries clothing. Remember well that some prominent political Parties blame much of this controversial climate change, on the ‘terrible’ practises of country folk and their flatulent animals! What? So, start the tractor, and get to them poll booths to confirm that Heartland New Zealand is determined to bring back the values, disciplines and visions of our hard-working pioneers, who started on the land. Towns only came after that, to cater for those who believe that consumerism is a career choice… Till next month then. Must go and check that the Shetland ponies aren’t playing under the bed again.
