With the Mutton and Barley Broth: WEST BROOK 2006 MARLBOROUGH ‘BARRIQUE FERMENTED’ CHARDONNAY The deep rich aromas of this dish sent our kitchen in a spin – the exotic earthy spice of cumin and bay with the hearty warmth of a well made stock after a long day in the barrel hall! So we reached for our 2006 ‘Barrique fermented’ Chardonnay. Lemon zest, nougat and cloves on the nose mingled with the tempting broth. The wine has great presence with the fruit extending across the palate to be greeted by a wave of hazelnut, cashew and creamy oak. The succulent meat portions and the textural contrast of pearl barley made for an exciting contrast…..I hope there’s some leftovers!
