Handsome, strong and impressive,  Rottweilers are almost always black with clearly defined tan or mahogany markings on the cheeks, muzzle, chest and legs, with medium length coat.

The skull is typically massive, but without excessive jowls. According to internationals standards, the Rottweiler stands 61 to 68 cm (24-27 inches) at the withers for males, and 56 to 62.5 cm (22-25 inches) for females, with average weights of  50 - 55 kg (80-120 pounds) for males and 42 kg (70 - 95 pounds) for females.

Well trained and socialised Rottweilers are reliable, loving and alert companions that are quick to learn. Their size and self assured nature has made them a popular choice as guard dogs. The Rottweiler also has a natural tendency to assert dominance making it vital to train them well.  As with any dog an untrained, poorly socialised, or abused Rottweiler can learn to be extremely aggressive and destructive.

They can be strong-willed and should be trained in a firm and consistent manner and as an owner you must be the pack leader. Rottweilers can be loving and loyal dogs with the right owners but many breeders don’t advise taking one on if you have very young children, simply because of their size. If you are considering a Rottweiler, breeders advise you research the breed well, talking to breeders and owners before making a decision.
