Border Collies Headlines
• Border Collies
There are few kiwis who won’t hear Border Collie and think fondly of Murray Ball’s ‘Dog’ from Footrot Flats.  In general, Border Collies are medium-sized dogs without extreme physical characteristics and a moderate amount of coat, which can be either short haired or long haired.

Although the most common colouring is that of ‘Dog’, black and white is Black tricolor (black/tan/white), red and white, and red tricolour (red/tan/white) are not uncommon.

Considered the most intelligent breed of dog, Border Collies are a biddable breed with an instinctive desire to work closely and intensely with a human handler. True to their working heritage, Border Collies make very demanding, energetic pets that are better off in households that can provide them with plenty of exercise and a job to do.

If they are taken out on the farm each day and kept active with a dedicated, active owner, a Border Collie can be an excellent companion.   Being left for long periods without attention or stimulation can make Border Collies neurotic and unpredictable, so make sure you can give the attention he will need before getting one.
